In the previous article, we discussed what happens to a town when the mayor has total control of a town council. Such a council pays more attention to special interests and taking orders from their “boss” than listening to the people.
Well ladies and gentlemen, seems we are part of history repeating itself. The current Mayor of Bartonville describes when the previous had control of that council. The mayor he is describing is our current mayor of Copper Canyon.
Here is what Mayor Scherer writes:
“… at the time there was very little transparency from the town hall (the mayor at the time recruited the council, ... attacked his opponents both in and out of council meetings, worked issues outside of the public eye”
Mayor Scherer continues to state: “I ran for council (and replaced the former mayor) to bring transparency, respect, and honesty to local government. …I feel compelled to write this letter because we have come full circle, back to the unacceptable behavior to the previous political machine. And it is worse this time. Last time, it was elected officials…”
The point of these two excerpts from the entire article is, that we are repeating the mistake made by Bartonville. Our current mayor attempts to run our town the way he did Bartonville before he resigned. He won’t allow dissenting opinions voiced. He recruits those who will do what he tells them to do. He covers up his agenda by being a bully or threatening legal actions. During town meetings, he only allows people who support him extra speaking time. Cutting off any opposition speakers at their limit or calling them out of order. You can see that for yourself on the videos of the town meetings.
We can do better in Copper Canyon. You deserve better. We don’t need to repeat the painful history that Bartonville went thru. Below is a link to Mayor Scherer’s article in the Cross Timbers Gazette, April 9.
